GHI THOR | WHAT ARE WE TALKING ABOUT?....

There is no way to Happiness, Happiness is the way. Mahtma Gandhi

Happy teams, happy customers!

Although it seems like a commonplace, this expression remains true.

We have all had experiences in restaurants and hotels that seemed fantastic. Good food, a sophisticated and careful environment, very beautifully decorated rooms with high comfort. However, it is often easy to detect minor errors, mostly in small details such as the background music, an uneven table, or the ambient light. It is then, when we have that feeling of a certain disappointment, a certain discomfort.

At PLEASE DISTURB, we believe that the essence of all companies comes down to one variable: the incredible people who work in this sector. A highly involved employee provides a higher superior experience to our customers.

The question is:

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO ATRACT, RETAIN AND INVOLVE OUR PEOPLE?

The answer we deeply believe in is:

CREATING AN ATHMOSPHERE OF HAPPINESS AND WELL-BEING IN THE COMPANY.

THE CONCEPT OF HAPPINESS HAS CHANGED

March 20 is now celebrated every year as the International Day of Happiness, declared since 2012 by the United Nations.

In the same year, on April 2, the UN implemented Resolution 65/309, adopted unanimously by the General Assembly in July 2011, thus placing Happiness as a holistic approach to Development.

Since the year 2000, a growing community of scientists in the areas of Positive Psychology and Neuroscience, has approached Happiness and well-being as a scientific concept that requires research, experiences and highly grounded theories.

Happiness is no longer just a state of mind, a goal in life, a mere meaningless word.

Happiness is science, it can be developed and carries individual, community and corporate benefits. Happiness generates profit!

COMPANIES THAT INVEST ON HAPPINESS PROGRAMS ACHIEVE AN INCREASE IN RESULTS AND OVERAL PERFORMANCE DUE TO:

. Increase in productivity of up to 31% (Greenberg & Arawaka)

. Increase in retention of up to 44% (Gallup)

. Reduction in sick leave of up to 66% (Forbes)

. Turnover reduction of up to 55% (Gallup)

. Increased quality of the employee / management / customer relationship

. Building a strong sense of belonging

HOW ARE THESE RESULTS ACHIEVED?

Several studies point out that the main companies’ failures are connected with the low conection and the low involvement of employees.

At the origin of this problem, the CODE community carried out a study in the United Kingdom in 2019, in the Hotel and Restaurant sectors, which pointed as causes for the failure: the lack of psychological support from companies to their employees; the lack or little relevance of training and mentoring programs; the dehumanization of work, without taking into consideration the “life beyond”  the company; the distance between the management and the staff; the lack of extra benefits that could improve the quality of life of employees; the absence of a career development program.

A Happiness is focus on the opposite way, by creating conditions for the entire Human Resources structure to be visible and taken into consideration, providing, for example:

. psychological counseling for all who need it - Mental Health.

. strong commitment to training, skills development, and personal and professional growth of employees individually and as a team.

. the knowledge and monitoring of the less positive situations portrayed in the life of each employee, offering humanism and compassion.

. the proximity link between management, management, and staff, generating involvement.

. the development of a program with benefits and better conditions for employees.

. the investment on individual growth and development programs.

When employees feel that someone cares for them, listen to them, and are treated well, their level of involvement, dedication and productivity increases on a large scale.

HOW TO APPLY A HAPPINESS PROGRAM IN MY COMPANY?

PLEASE DISTURB, has a group of specialists in Happiness, Well-Being, Positive Psychology and Neuroscience, who can help you.

The starting point is the evaluation of the GHI (Gross Happiness Index). Combining the analysis of subjective and objective data, the GHI aims to draw a portrait as real as possible of what are the real opportunities and achievements, regarding the level of Happiness in each company.

The path of Corporate Happiness is different for everyone, so the process starts exactly by making a diagnosis of the companies and proceeding with the following steps:

1. COMPANY ASSESSMENT: elaboration of the diagnosis.

2. PURPOSE: Identification of the unifying Purpose of the team.

3. MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE: definition of the working group that will manage the process.

4. MEASUREMENT: analysis of systemic and specific indicators. Elaboration of the strategy for transforming the corporate culture.

5. EDUCATION: definition and operationalization of the education and training program.

6. TRANSFORMATION: elaboration and operationalization of the GHI;

7. FEEDBACK: mediation and periodic verification of all indicators.

The process is highly flexible and adaptable to the reality of each company.

Two last curiosities:

 1. Portugal in the Happiness ranking

Would you like to know where Portugal is in the world ranking of Happiness? You can consult the entire report here and find out.

 2. THOR

On our concept it is associated with Tourism, Hospitality and Restaurants.

But there is another meaning...

"Of all the gods, Thor is the most characteristic hero of the stormy world of the Vikings. Frank, untamed, full of vigor and energy, he puts all his confidence in his strong arm and his simple weapons. He strides through the kingdom north of the gods, an appropriate symbol for the man of action ". (DAVIDSON, 2004, p. 61).
